For our friends who finish shifts before 1730 – please come and see me in the union office on December 18^th or January 7th between 1100-1230. The union office is on the 3rd floor near the chapel (Rm. 3-434).

We’ll have more details for you when we see you. Your participation in the activities we are undertaking will be crucial in creating the pressure we need placed on decision makers at various levels to understand how important safe ratios are to us.

Coffee with ONA – Office Hours

BUP Steph Hamill will be on site in the union office holding office hours. Feel free to drop in to grab a coffee, say hi, ask questions you have, share concerns and/or grab some swag!

The union office is located on the 3rd floor near the chapel – Room 3-434.

Steph will also have a petition for members to sign for ONA to send to Queens Park to have read in the legislature. It’s regarding safe nurse to patient ratios and a demand to stop attempts at privatizing our healthcare. The more signatures we get on the petition the more weight it will hold in the legislature and the more times we can have it read out at Queens Park. Nurse to Patient ratios are an item that ONA is taking to the bargaining table in January so we need to show our strong support for this initiative to improve the likelihood of success while also raising awareness of the significant impact unsafe staffing has on nurses AND our patients!!

If you want to take some petitions to have signed by your family, friends or colleagues please reach out to Steph. You can return them to her and she will get them to ONA for collection.

FordFest Protest

Fed up with Ford?

From the Greenbelt scandal to the privatization of our public services, Ford just can’t stop rewarding his donor and developer buddies.

But the rest of us have had enough!

Join SMGH BUP Stephanie Hamill, the OFL and allies at the Ford Fest protest on Friday, August 16 at 5:00 p.m. at Country Heritage Park in Milton.

FREE buses will depart from Fairview Park Mall, 2960 Kingsway Drive (map) on Friday at 4:00 p.m. (returning by 7:00 p.m.).

SMGH Nursing Week Celebrations

This year’s Nurse’s Week theme is: WE ARE NOT AN OPTION – WE ARE A NECESSITY! The work we are all doing to advocate for better care, better working conditions, and widespread recognition and RESPECT will continue. We will be heard!

This week come and find us to pick up your Nurse’s Week gifts, some ONA swag, and to grab some tasty treats! Thank you to the volunteers who have signed up to help us this week. Patric and I both work bedside still and are navigating our work/union work schedules along with running the tables this week so having you step up to help us means so much! We are still looking for volunteers for May 8^th and May 9^th. Please e-mail me if you’re able to give us a hand on those days. A small token of thanks will be provided.
