ERIN ARISS, THE NEGOTIATION TEAM AND LEGAL

Erin Ariss, the negotiation team and legal went over the facts of the decision. Wassim Garzouzi
counsel for the 2025 Negotiation Team for ONA describes how Ontario Nurses were the highest
paid in the country 15 years ago in 2010. A leading expert on Nurse Patient Ratios (NPR) Dr
Linda Aiken testified at the hearing. Aiken describes nursing burnout caused by stress sets up
nurses for failure, lack of resources, inadequate staffing causes burnout as well as nurses
leaving the profession altogether. NPR that are low causes increase abuse emotional and
physical from patients and their families. ONA’s focus was on cases of violence across the
province and inadequate staffing to increase nurse and health safety by having the ratios listed
inside our Central Agreement (CA)was dismissed by Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) and
Arbitrator Price. New language to protect Bargaining Unit work from RPNs was dismissed. While
RPNs have their work protected from RNs being reassigned their work. Article 13.01 revolves
around Transfer of Accountability (TOA) under HILDA and labour arbitrators where a grievance
from a nurse asked for time paid for her report time was denied and new language was inserted
against ONAs objections. Language was imposed by the labour arbitrators that TOA is apart of
our professional responsibility. For the last 50 years we have been providing a free service,
where OHA objects and states will cost 2.6%, which is about $203,223,349.00 Million dollars
cost to the province for 15 minutes of TOA. Erin and Counsel are advising us to not short
change ourselves and charge for every minute of reporting time. anything over 15min language
still stands will be time and a half. For the first 15min the time will be charged for the shift you
are working. If you are working time and a half will be charged at time and a half or straight time

will be charged straight time. This article will take effect November 1, 2025, 60 days post the
arbitration award.

NEW CONTRACT HIGHLIGHTS

Wage increases for RNs and NPs will take effect no later than November 12, 2025 and will go back to start of contract April 1, 2025
RN/NP wage increases for 2025 are 3% and for 2026 2.25%

Article 11.15 Domestic Violence and Intimate Partner Violence Language includes more details

LEAVES AND BENEFITS

Maternity leaves increase for top up from 84% to 93% and Arbitrator Price states this increase will take effect from
September 3 rd date of award not April 1/25
Article 17, dental increases for crowns, implants to total $2500 and orthodontics also $2500

call or manager if you’re going over you shift end time. account for every minute as Provincial
President Erin Ariss states. Please let Diego or myself know if you’re not Bonafide and we can
send you a new form to register with ONA. Or if you need to update your information we can
change it for you.
