SMGH change to Blue Cross Benefits

Blue cross Benefits

Please see below a note from our BUP Steph:

It has come to my attention that people were charged a deductible when we switched from Manulife to Blue Cross. This deductible would have been taken between November 1 and Dec 31. We were then charged our deductible for 2025 after January 1st. If you were charged a deductible from Blue Cross in 2024 please contact benefits@smgh.ca and tell them you were charged a deductible that we had already paid to Manulife for that year. You should receive the $22.50 back for 2024. You can check your claims online, or you can call Blue Cross to inquire.

If there are any services, or items that were covered by our plan with Manulife that you are being told is not covered by Blue Cross - please let me know what it is and what your follow up has been so far. I have heard of diabetic supplies that were previously covered not being covered and members being asked to provide proof of coverage from Manulife. Your pharmacy should be able to provide proof of coverage for you to submit to Blue Cross for situations like the diabetic supplies. I would still like to be notified of any of these issues so that I can address it with the employer.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns - don't hesitate to reach out to Patric or myself.

In solidarity,

Steph
