This is not only a win for LCBO workers but a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we stand together. The fight against the Ford Government’s privatization agenda continues to be a critical battle for all of us. Just as we showed up for LCBO workers, and they’ve fought for us, we must continue to stand united in protecting our public services.
Each year, the LCBO generates $2.5 billion for the province. The funding goes into maintaining and improving public services, including health care, education, and infrastructure. Privatizing the LCBO jeopardizes this reliable source of public revenue, leading to cuts in these vital areas.
Make no mistake, Ontario’s health-care system is facing significant challenges. Under Doug Ford, private for-profit clinics have already started providing health-care services such as diagnostic imaging, surgeries, and other essential procedures. Privatization undermines the quality, accessibility, and affordability of health-care services. It also results in job losses and poorer working conditions for you as nurses and health-care professionals.
Ford is creating a system where only those who can afford to pay receive timely and adequate care.
This is unacceptable. As nurses and health-care professionals, ONA members know how important it is to protect public services, protect public revenues that support health-care funding, and protect good jobs in their communities. We must champion for a health-care system that prioritizes people over profits.
Let’s continue to stand in solidarity, support each other, and demand the public services our communities deserve. When we fight, we win.
